The village grew rapidly at the end of the C19th with the discovery of numerous prehistoric sites in the vicinity. Les Glycines was the hotel used by the first prehistorians, explorers and excavators.
The early years of the C20th saw the arrival of the railway line, initially to service the area's kaolin mining activity, and this brought more business to Les Glycines. The owners at that period decided to add a restaurant to their popular hotel.
Halfway through the century, the hotel boasted 12 bedrooms, much appreciated by prehistorians from all over the world. Indeed, one prehistorian, an archaeologist and Cambridge University don, brought one of his undergraduates, Prince Charles, to Les Glycines in 1967, to discover the wonders of Les Eyzies and its surroundings.
In 1974, the new owners decided on a change of style and a new cachet for Les Glycines. They added over 2 hectares of wooded parkland, created a vegetable garden to fill our kitchen with fresh vegetables, herbs and other delights and refurbished the old stables to bring the total number of bedrooms to 25. Les Glycines has entertained a number of celebrities over the year including Paul Guth, Guerlain, Leclerc, Citroën …
